We arrived at Lavender Hill, our hillside retreat for the next week plus. We were tired after flying all night from Los Angeles to Miami, from Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a short hop from San Juan to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI.
The first thing after landing on St. Thomas was to use the airport bathroom to change into shorts, Hawaiian shirt, and sandals–official resort wear. We packed so the shorts and sandals were on the top after opening the suitcase. We hired a land taxi to take us to the east end of the island to catch a water taxi. Yikes! They drive on the left side of the road!
The boat travels every hour from Red Hook on the east end of St. Thomas to Cruz Bay on St. John, our final destination. The breeze blowing in our faces was refreshing to say the least.
We were met at the Cruz Bay dock and given a ride up to our condo in Lavender Hill. We unpacked, lay down on the cool tile floor with the tropical breezes blowing over us as we rested. Later we took a taxi to the market to stock up for our stay. That evening we ate at the Lime Tree and both had all you can eat shrimp. Great meal. Accompanied, of course, by a rum and fruit juice drink. Fruit juice makes it a healthy drink.
Even out here the OJ Simpson trial is big news; preliminary motions, jury selection are all carried on television.
