Old Posterous Blog

These blog postings were imported from the Posterous service before Posterous closed down. Posterous was acquired by Twitter in February 2013.

A new blog service has come on the scene, Posthaven. The developers are the same as those that started Posterous. Their promise for Posthaven? "Websites come and go. This one is made to last forever."

50s Rocker Jerry Lee Lewis was right! Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On!

Another earthquake this evening in Borrego Springs "shook us up" while we were watching the movie "An Education." This time there was some quick shaking followed by gentle rolling. The floor lamp was rocking and the ceiling fan was swaying, neither very violently. The earthquake lasted for about 10 to 15 seconds. We haven't seen any evidence of damage to our house.

The epicenter of this 5.9 magnitude quake (moderate) was in Ocotillo, about 68 miles via road (not as the crow flies) from us and about 25 miles west of El Centro.

There have been regular earthquakes in this region of southern California since the major earthquake on Easter Sunday, April 4th. That one, near Mexicali, Mexico, was a magnitude 7.2 temblor. Cal Tech seismology lab has confimed that this evenings quake was an aftershock of the Easter earthquake.

Here is the early intensity map ... we live in the lime green section (indicating moderate to strong intensity) running northwest and west of the Salton Sea.
