A shortage of Napa cabbage is leaving South Korea in a kim chee crisis. Bad weather has caused the main ingredient in the Korean staple of pickled cabbage to become more expensive and less accessible. Conditions have chopped cabbage production by half. Cabbage prices skyrocketed as a result. Korean officials responded lifting tariffs on Chinese-imported cabbages to increase the country's access to cabbage. The government also offered busy Korean markets 300,000 heads of cabbage at 70 percent of the market price. Still, the shortage is expected to continue, with prices stabilizing in November.
